NXCO COMPANY OVERVIEW
Nxco Mining Technologies (Pty) Ltd is a South African based company manufacturing and distributing non-detonating cartridges through a global distribution network to approximately 50 countries around the world. Nxco Mining Technologies has two main brands – Nonex and Nxburst. Our cartridges have been fully tested by UN accredited testing companies – Ten E Packaging, NRCan, Bureau Veritas in France, HSE in the UK, BAM in Germany for CE accreditation. Our sensitive rock breaking cartridges have been classified as UN 1.4S and can be transported globally on commercial airlines.
The company’s aim is to ensure that:
- Safety procedures and standards are established and always maintained.
- That trained users of Nxco cartridges understand the safe and correct way to solve rock breaking challenges in sensitive areas; and
- We have sufficient well trained and experienced contractors who can apply our technology.
Our Objectives
To inform and educate the market on sensitive rock and concrete breaking technology that is safe and cost efficient.
Our aim is to remove the following barriers for the technology not being used.
- Lack of knowledge;
- Lack of experience;
- Lack of technical support;
- Incorrect application; and
- Poor training.

Advantages & Fundamental
Difference of RBC’s
Energy
Environmental Impact and Sensitivity
- Dust and noise levels are significantly lower than high explosives.
- Suitable for use in sensitive marine environments due to the absence of a shock wave.
- Low air blast pressure with a short pressure cycle and a less damaging frequency.
- No shockwave makes Nxco’s RBC’s suitable for use in sensitive environments due to low ground vibrations.
Safety Distance
One of the major advantages of Nxco’s RBC’s is that the safety distance is reduced to approximately 50m from the rock breaking operation. This means that personnel equipment only require local clearance instead of complete site evacuation. The benefit of this is that secondary breaks can occur in shift.
Safety distances can further be improved by the use of covering and matting.
Training and Accreditation
In order to become an accredited Nxco RBC blaster one needs to undergo a training course by an accredited trainer which will include a theoretical and practical aspect followed by a written exam. Following the successful completion of the training course the trainee will be issued a Nxco RBC blaster certificate.
Competency and Fragmentation
Nxco’s RBC’s transfer minimal energy to the adjacent rock which leaves it in a competent state, unlike high explosives that tend to fragment or crack the adjacent rock which reduces the safety and stability of the surrounding structures.
Transport and Storage
- Storage regulations for Nxco’s RBC’s are relaxed in terms of quantities.
- Transportation regulations are also relaxed for minimal quantities (less than 250kg) transported without a registered explosives vehicle.
- Products classified under 1.4S can also be transported by commercial aircraft.
